Buddha's Birthday

Sunday was Buddha's Birthday in Korea. According to the CIA World Factbook, Korea is about one quarter Buddhist and one quarter Christian, so Buddha's birthday is a fairly big day. There are special lantern festivals at the Buddhist temples throughout Korea (of which there are many). We went back to Kyeryong mountain to see the lantern lighting festival there. Unfortunately my rechargeable batteries and my extra batteries died before nightfall, so I didn't get all the pictures I would have liked. Still, I took a lot of photos, so I'll be posting them over the next few days in 3 parts. Today's pictures were taken as we headed up the mountain towards the temples. This photo was taken right at the base of the mountain at the start of our long walk.
